TENTATIVE ART CAMP AGENDA:
Day 1: Drawing Basics
Students will learn the fundamentals of drawing (line, texture, shading, perspective, negative space, composition, etc.) by completing fun exercises and working from a still life setup. They will also be able to watch demonstrations by the instructor, and view the work of important Artists of the past. They will have the opportunity to try different drawing materials ranging from various types of pencils, to charcoal, to ink fountain pens.
Day 2: Painting
Students will explore the many different styles, techniques and approaches possible with paint by looking at work of important Artists. They will explore watercolor, acrylic, tempera, and even water-mixable oil paint to create a finished painting of the subject of their choice
Day 3: Sculpture
Students will learn the fundamentals of sculpture and thinking in 3-D. We will begin with Origami (Japanese paper folding) geared to each age level; Next we will do a fun group project constructed of biodegradable packing peanuts; Students will finish up with the sculpture medium of their choice: Clay, carved plaster, wood, found objects, paper, and more
Day 4: Collage
We will study the collage work of Henri Matisse and Eric Carle and create our own masterpieces out of cut paper and other materials
Day 5: Printmaking
This was the instructor’s major at RISD and her true love as far as art media go. We will begin with simple scratched-foam relief prints and work our way up to collagraphy, monotype and possibly even drypoint; The studio is equipped with a small press so students will get to learn how to use one safely
