All About Birthday Party Portraits
Noa’s Art Party Portraits are a fun, entertaining party activity that also provides your guests with unique, keepsake favors.
The Portraits are black and white, 8″ x 10″ (a convenient and easy-to-frame size). For small to average size parties (10-15 guests) I sketch using a black Prismacolor color pencil, which will not smudge or fade over the years. Guests may select from over 40 detailed background scenes displayed on a convenient laminated poster. I can draw about 8 portraits an hour using this style. For larger parties I recommend my quicker black marker style, which will allow me to draw more guests in the time allotted. These generally include only the face, but a couple of details can be added to personalize the portrait.
Older kids (ages 5 and up) really enjoy watching an artist at work drawing their friends and family. They also get a kick out of choosing a fun background scene, imagining themselves as a mermaid or firefighter, etc. I would hope that my drawings inspire kids to reach for their dreams as they begin to define themselves.
Although little ones (babies and toddlers) don’t usually know what’s going on and find sitting quite a challenge*, their parents really appreciate taking home a beautiful portrait to hang on the wall. And someday, as an adult, they’ll enjoy looking at this captured moment in time…
*Artist may need parents’ help in amusing a very young child long enough (3 minutes or so) to draw their likeness. This usually involves someone standing behind me to engage and entertain them (I really don’t mind if you give me “bunny ears”). However, if they are screaming, crying and absolutely refusing to sit (very rare), I recommend either providing me with a photo to work from, or waiting until a future party to have them drawn.
Pricing: I have a $180 minimum fee which includes up to 10 guests and covers my travel expenses. Each additional guest is $10 each. For larger events such as bar/bat mitzvahs or corporate functions, I charge $100 an hour with a two-hour minimum. (Prices are subject to change, please call for an exact quote) I can draw approximately 8-12 people an hour depending on the style and the number of backgrounds I use. If you limit the guests’ choice of backgrounds or have me use the black marker style, I can draw more people per hour. I accept only cash and checks made out to either Noa’s Art or Noa Juarez, payable the day of the event.
Deposits: In most cases I require a non-refundable* deposit of $100 in the form of a check made out to Noa’s Art, to reserve the date for your event. I will be happy to write up a contract for your event. *In the case of unforseen emergency or illness on my part, your deposit will be promptly refunded.
